This doesn't fit in this thread but there are BIG GAME TICKETS IN THE CAL SECTION AVAILABLE!

http://www.insidebayarea.com/sports/ci_7569283 claims there are and I tried gostanford.com and it says that only tickets in the Cal section are available. I already have my tickets but I think it would be good if the owners of this blog could make a major post of this- in case there are Cal fans thinking there are no tickets (since the Cal ticket office has no tickets).

Go Bears! Beat Stanford!

I like the post by JC and it reminded me of half time adjustments over the last 2 years...

In close games, Tedford could make excellent half time adjustments and we could always depend on that. I think the Oregon St. loss affected everyone after the huge Oregon win. Since then the Bears haven't been able to bounce back and basically lost all confidence.

Here's to 2008....Hopefully we don't lay an egg next Saturday against Stanfurd!!!!!

I agree with a lot of the posts and I don't know if necessarily there is apathy, but I think I can probably speak for a lot fans when I express frustration. I graduated from CAL at a time when the team struggled under the likes of Gilbertson and Holmoe. We just could not win a Big Game even. Tedford has done a wonderful elevating CAL to this position, but it's hard to comprehend why he cannot get them to the next level, especially with the talent that was present this year. If there is a lot of 'meism,' isn't it the coaches job to pull everyone together? And this isn't the first time CAL has collapsed after suffering disappointment. Remember the Holiday Bowl against Texas Tech?

I think there is definitely something going on with the coaching as well as the players. Maybe Tedford and the staff themselves have lost their focus after those losses. Poor play calling (How many 1st and goals have we not punchedin this year?), sticking with an injured quarterback, not getting players motivated and focused, not making proper 2nd half adjustments (How many games have we led going into halftime and come out with a loss? And I don't just mean this year!!), and players exhibiting brain cramps (kicking off to UW, Riley not throwing the ball away) are all signs to me that there are some coaching problems.

I do hope they can "right the ship" and keep the Axe where it belongs and represent the Pac-10 well in a bowl game. Go Bears!!!

I really appreciate your comment and I hope I did not offend you in anyway. Your comment motivated me to take a good look at myself and ask "Why am I a fan of Cal football", and am I a genuine fan? I think I wanted to see them go to a major bowl game so bad that I lost sight of the true essence of what being a fan is. Your comment is very clear, intelligent and backed with reason. I have to respect that. I just hope the team gets themselves together. I was told, from a reliable resource that there is a huge element of 'meism' on the team. The person who told me this information has a class with a couple of Cal football players. Some of players are just concerned with going pro and they are not playing as a team. I think some of the players became over-confident and forgot what it means to play with togetherness and they fell apart. I agree, we can't point the finger and single out just one individual, but there is obviously a huge chemistry problem and I would hate to have to rectify that matter as a head coach. I appreciate what Tedford has done for Cal, I really do. I know I can be a bit sarcastic in my comments but I like Tedford. I just hope he doesn't get discouraged and opt out of his contract. Lloyd Carr's retirement could cause a domino effect in college football and I hope that Tedford is not affected by it as well. In reference to California being filled with small-town football greats. You are absolutely correct. I lived in Davis, CA. for six years and that town has U.C. Davis Aggie Football pride. The energy is everywhere and I miss that energy and wish it was like that here in Berkeley. I saw so many outstanding football players come out of U.C. Davis and maybe one or two will get picked-up as free agents to the N.F.L. but being a D-1AA school, U.C. Davis doesn't get as much attention as Cal but, there are players on the U.C.D. Football team that could easily play D-1 ball and they shocked Stanford in 2005. However, in reference to Cal lets just hope next year is a Cal Football year. Going to the Rose Bowl will really heighten school pride and I think Berkeley would really benefit from it as well. I admit the apathy needs to die...Go Bears!

C. Neal,

Perhaps Cal doesn't have a football powerhouse presence because of the same outlook you shared here. Cal's football history and tradition is not in question here. Being from Nor Cal, born and raised, I always knew that good local football players go to Cal. No one talked about Stanfurd, UOP, Saint Mary's, or Sonoma State. If you were good enough in high school you went to Cal, bottom line. This state is filled with small-town football heroes that passed through Memorial Stadium. The history and tradition are there. The attitude is not there. I was not fortunate enough to matriculate from Cal, but I've always payed attention to the team, even when I was playing ball at another college. As a matter of fact, the first football game I ever attended was a Cal game when I was three years old. I'm not the only fan out there like this. Nor Cal is full of Cal fans ready and willing to get behind a school that is actively in pursuit of championships. That doesn't mean a team or coaching staff content with a 2-win season, or a 6-win season for that matter. Cal has all of the makings of a football powerhouse: history, tradition, great players, educational excellence, fan base, and funding. What is the problem here? Acceptance of mediocrity.

You don't have to be a "dumb" school to be a great football school. I think our little Trojan friends down south can attest to that. Or do they not share the same excellence in academia as Cal?

Theres only one problem coach. I don't have season tickets and the view from tightwad hill is awesome!Have you talked to the University of California Regents about retrofitting Memorial Stadium. I would hate to see Longshore trip over some of the crumbling cement and hurt his little ankle again.I'm just waiting to see that place just collapse. Hahahahaha.
