It's an absolute shame that the tree-shitters are getting all this attention. I took my nephews to CAL DAY and there was a CAL provided map and an explaination of why the tree-sitters are up there. One may think that the sitters are now a UC program/club or something.

Never ceases to amaze me that a few idiots ruin it for the masses. Coach Tedford may think twice next time when the football supporters promise to step into the 20th century with their football facilities. I sincerly hope your tree sitters can cool their butts in the local jail soon. Are there any treapassing laws in Berkeley being violated? Good luck Bears, you deserve so much more recognition for a fine football team, and less for the the tree-sitters.

I'm glad that I embody your leftist stereotype, and I'm sorry that big words frighten you. If you want to respond with hollow attacks on my diction rather than with substantive arguments, then I'll leave it to you to look foolish.

I'll admit that the bit about the war was a cheap shot -- at least we're all on the same page about that one now. But the notion that anyone who disagrees with your views should just concede and get out goes against the principles on which this country was founded. We all have the right to our opinions and the power to have them recognized and effected (through legal means). The US's environmental policy is deplorable and it is our society that has the most impact on the environment, both directly and influentially. There is no better front for this fight.

But, we're getting at the fundamental difference of left v right. You want complacency, we want change. I'll agree to disagree.

Spoken like a true leftist JJ. Attack the person with
pointless rhetoric. Your verbose way of speaking is an idealist tactic used by leftist's to manipulate the surface thinking community...so typical. The people need to get off of university property and become hard working citizens in the community. If you don't like the United States...get out. There is no country on this planet that is immune from problems. This is still a great country despite the imperfections of some of our leaders!

Also, the person who calls himself 'Ayr' is 37 years old. Zachary Running Wolf is in his 50's, so these are not students protecting their campus. Far from it. Most students I've spoken with want the High Performance Center or don't really care either way.

I do not see the connection between the tree sitters and political ideology. Right/Left does not apply in this situation. The people in the trees are more fringe than right or left.
I live in Berkeley and frequently must pass by these people. My opinion is that they are adult people (not students and not connected to UC) and the homeless kids from Telegraph Ave who are using the trees as a way to form some kind of community that some people will support opposed to the begging for pot money on Telegraph crowd and being told to "go back home to mommie and daddie in Orinda". I guess it's their way to "mess with the man". Plain and simple.

Thank you, C. Neal for demonstrating how ignorant people on the right can be (and usually are). I cannot imagine a more pressing issue than the imminent cessation of all life on the planet if civilization's ongoing destruction of the environment does not stop. (Okay, foreign policy poses the same threat -- thanks for getting us into that situation!) While *these trees* don't really mean much in the grand scheme (there are far more pressing environmental issues at hand), it's the spirit of the reckless destruction and the notion that because the university owns the land, it can harm the environment as it sees fit that these folks are fighting against. Calling them losers with radical ideologies is childish and avoids the real issues. Grouping in the entire left with these folks is unfair to the rest of us.

Apologies to Eric and the nice folks who run the website for the drift on the comments.

We (conservatives)are a very small community at U.C. Berkeley but this controversy pertaining to the tree-sitting demonstration just makes me more proud to be a conservative. These left-wingers cause more problems in the end for themselves and others with their radical ideologies...total losers, get out of the trees so we can create a pleasant atmosphere for visitors and current athletes. What is so typical is that some of these tree sitters come from wealthy families and have nothing better to do than cause trouble and embarrass their family. U.C. Berkeley is more conservative than a lot of people are aware of. I just want to see it that way across the board. The 1960's radical era is dead...over and done with. Get out of the trees people and start living like human beings. As a nation we have way bigger problems to deal with (i.e. foreign policy, economy, K-12 education & national security problems),than issues over trees. The leftist, micro-minded individuals just don't get it!
